VRED Professional Features

Amongst the various features VRED Professional offers, some need to be especially highlighted because they are only offered in PI-VR's software packages in this specific way. VRED Professional brochure

Direct NURBS Raytracing
Direct NURBS Raytracing

Direct NURBS Raytracing*

VRED Professional offers the first and only solution for NURBS raytracing worldwide. NURBS raytracing enables you to execute surface evaluations at a level never achieved before. Surface continuities can be examined with the exactness of single pixels. The maximum approximation of surfaces in 3D space is not limited any more to the precision of tessellation of polygonal data. No matter what the distances are, you will be constantly provided with perfect results.

By the introduction of NURBS raytracing the process of the data preparation accelerates immensely. Of course this rendering procedure completely supports every native material featured in VRED Professional as well as animation functionalities and possibilities of configuration.

Measured Materials

Measured Materials

A VR image's realism can be raised by the use of digitised materials which can be employed by special procedures. VRED Professional supports these procedures using measured materials, which precisely display all qualities of a real material up to the smallest detail. Measured materials seamlessly adapt to the VRED architecture. Like all preset materials, they behave physically correct and therefore respond to all integrated lighting set-ups.

CAD Converter
CAD Converter

CAD Converter*

Available as 32 and 64 bit versions the CAD Converter of VRED Professional realises the import of many data formats. The CAD Converter can transform data parallelised and uses all CPU cores of the system.

After converting NURBS data to polygonal data, imported data becomes seamlessly tesselated. Layer structures, material assignments and scenegraph groups can be maintained, depending on the data format. The VRED Professional CAD Converter impresses with speed and tessellation quality.

Full Global Illumination
Full Global Illumination

Lights and Lighting

Global Illumination calculates all diffuse bounces in a scene. Besides sources of direct light in a HDR image, beams of light are also taken into account which, although coming from the same source, are reflected by the surfaces in the scene. This way physically correct visualisations of interior scenes (ambient lighting), tolerance (correct shadowing of joints) as well as of head lights and rear lights can be accomplished.

Furthermore, VRED Professional includes photon raytracing for the increased calculation of indirect lighting situations and caustics. These can be generated by any light source of a scene, be it HDR-lighting, object lights or standard light sources.

With the integration of the optional HDR Light Studio plugin and the support of ICC color profiles results are visible immediatly and easy to edit.

Variant Sets
Variant Sets

VariantSets

VRED Professional boosts a prominent tool to illustrate different variants of a data set or a scene: the VariantSets. With the help of VariantSets complicated scenes can be defined in an easy and intuitive way. They clearly simplify the working process.

Every variant can be individually defined and saved with regards to shading, material and colour, geometrical differences, animation, camera positioning, lighting, environment, etc. Several variations can be arranged and combined together afterwards in a VariantSet. Thus dependencies on circuits can be defined.

Additionally, the VariantSet Module comes with a ScriptEditor to execute further individualised commands by releasing a VariantSet.

Datapreparation
Datapreparation

Datapreparation

VRED Professional offers various tools to prepare datasets for rendering. Starting with the alignment of face-normals, which can be adjusted in a highly automated way, up to Scenegraph optimizations which can remove redundant nodes to reduce scene complexity. The tool package allows users to organize and regroup data structures in the shortest possible amount of time. This makes it very easy to prepare the data for the access of single components and all areas of application.

The datapreparation tools in VRED Professional start with the support of special rendermodes which allow to verify the aligment and quality of surfaces and end up in various tools which allow to select whole assembly parts consisting of single surfaces when they positioned seamlessly.

With VRED Professional's datapreparation, the process of preparing complex datasets can be done in shortest possible time frames and leaves more time for esthetic adjustment.

Sequencer
Sequencer

Sequencer

The Sequencer is a versatile tool which helps the complicated batch processing to be organized and executed sequentially. It is thus possible, for example, to initiate several rendering modes with completely different settings in a row without exiting the program. This, in conjunction with the ClipMaker, makes it an ingenious authoring tool available for the user. Every functionality, whether previously defined or already available in VRED Professional, such as activation of RenderLayers or VariantSets, can be triggered through the Sequencer. Target directories and environment variables can be fixed in the Sequencer. For more complicated processes, single sequences of animation clips can be executed in ClipMaker, which in turn triggers batch processes in other sequences created.

Nonlinear Animation

Nonlinear Animation

The animation package in VRED Professional provides everything required for the compilation of impressive motion sequences. Settings of every single object can be changed over time and therefore defined states can be set at certain times. Motion sequences can be generated for single objects and saved in huge numbers to invoke them at a later time.

In ClipMaker, the authoring system in VRED Professional, single animation clips can be arranged as you need them in order to define the desired composition.
Camera effects caused by object movements such as motion blur can be specified globally for the whole scenario as well as individually for single objects.

Together, ClipMaker, Sequencer and VariantsSet are a powerful package for the creation of complex and individually reacting animations.

Rendermodes
Rendermodes

Rendermodes

VRED Professional and VRED Photo are software packages, which are capable to display completely different render modes in the same level of quality with synchronized shading parameters and with the same look.

VRED Professional and VRED Photo allow to switch between OpenGL and raytracing rendering by just pressing a single button and offering nearly identical render quality whithout any modifications of the scene or shaders.

Even in raytracing it is possible to switch between various modes starting with Precomputed Illumination up to Full Global Illumination without the need to change any scene parameters.

Clustering
Clustering

Clustering*

VRED Professional can be controlled by single workstations as well as by big clusters. The scaling to big clusters and renderfarms is approximately linear due to the high performance communication among the cluster nodes and optimised load balancing. Besides interactive clustering you can also choose offline clustering. The cluster rendering supports all available rendermodes in OpenGL and raytracing.

The user has several clustering modes at hand which increase and improve the efficiency of clustering. By adding additional render nodes the render speed is improving significantly.

The render progress can be displayed in the Image Viewer, which also provides the possibility to save render progresses at any time - without having to stop the render job early.

The clustering setup is very easy and uses only TCP/IP for communication. There is no need to configure network drives.

Analyzer Module

VRED Professional offers a wide range of tools, which enable the evaluation of datasets. Cross-sections of geometries can be created in manifold ways. They can be placed along the world axis, on edges and curves of single objects. With the Measurement Tool it is possible to calculate gaps and distances. Several modes are available (point to point, edge to edge, object to object and gap measurement).
The Annotation Module offers the possibility to add annotations and notes to geometry parts and to place them in 3D space. Depending on their individual importance annotations can be colored. They can be saved in the document to ensure a smooth working process.

Material Library
Material Library

Material Library

VRED Professional comes with an extensive material library which is already integrated into the software and contains a range of predefined shader based materials. It includes a variety of paints, metals carbon and plastic materials, as well as woods, stones, leathers or liquids that are all based on correct physical mechanisms and deliver highly realistic output. It also contains three BTF materials. New material libraries can be implemented as required. Existing material libraries can be edited and exported. Material libraries can be made accessible on the network to all users.
All materials include additional parameters. It is possbile to assign reflective behavior to the Ground Material to simulate wet or mirroring surfaces. Other materials can be defined as light emittors, so that all objects with this material assigned appear and behave like light sources.
